Gedit, the official text editor of the GNOME desktop environment, is moving along with the rest of the Gnome packages and has reached version 3.8.3.

Gedit 3.8.3 provides full support for internationalized text, configurable syntax highlighting for various languages (C, C++, Java, HTML, XML, Python, Perl and many others), support for editing files from remote locations, print preview support, auto indentation, and much more.

Highlights of Gedit 3.8.3:

• Multiple bugfixes have been implemented for the external tools plugin; • Filtering duplicate files in the quickopen plugin now works properly; • Non-text files are no longer included in the quickopen plugin; • gedit only checks for Python when Python has been enabled.

gedit also has a very good plugin system that allows users to expand the features that are provided by default.

Check the official changelog for more details about this release.
