Epic's famous
Gears of War boosted the Xbox 360's sales, being a launch title that basically shook the gaming industry and opened the road for many other similar next-gen games. Now, as all major
gaming cults nowadays, Gears of War will become a movie, a huge one according to the script writer, Stuart Beattie.
You might be familiar with this name, since the man also wrote the script for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Gears of War, the movie will use the same technology like the acclaimed "300", being shot on a green screen in its entirety. Beattie also mentioned that the world featured in the famous title is too vast and gigantic to be reconstructed by using a real setting. We're dealing with a top-class
sci-fi war film here and we're bound to at least see the effects we've admired in War of the Worlds.
While that movie was a failure, many expect to find in Gears of War that original Starship Troopers feeling, they had lost years ago. The script writer was aided in his task by CliffyB, the "father" of Gears of War. Let's hope that the producers of the movie will drop the cliches and the macho acts of the characters, adding more depth to their personalities. Since Gears of War gets turned into a movie, how about a Lost Planet: Extreme Condition motion picture adaptation? I would just love to see that frozen universe coming to the big screen, but I bet that it would be a very difficult task to complete for the producers of such a movie.
No word on a Gears of War, the movie launch yet, although I have a feeling that it will be hitting the cinema the next summer, blowing our minds and breaking all ticket sales records.
