Video game developer Epic Games says that it plans to launch a new game mode called Execution and a new map, named Haven, for the multiplayer side of the upcoming Gears of War: Judgment.

The new content will be free for all and will be available on launch day, according to Maxim.

Haven is set in an ancient monastery that sits in the middle of a frozen wasteland and the layout is asymmetrical, allowing gamers to chase each other around the margins or meet for battle in the middle of the map.

Jim Brown, a producer working on the game, states, “It makes for especially hectic Domination games because the rings are easy to access and difficult to defend.”

Execution is a team-based deathmatch mode where a player needs to be executed in order to stop him from being brought back to the fray once a countdown ends.

It seems odd to have this map and game mode available as free DLC on launch day rather than just having it included on the disc. As long as it’s free though, I suppose it doesn’t matter. In an attempt to make the wait for Judgment less agonizing, I rented the first three GoW games from Blockbuster @Home from DISH and have been replaying them (currently, I’m finishing up 3). Something I love about working at DISH is trying out the various services and products we come out with. I’m thankful for this one too; prior to having Blockbuster @Home, I would end up purchasing all the games I wanted to play. That gets too expensive; however, now that I rent my games from Blockbuster @Home, with its flat-monthly rate, instead of buying all of them at sixty bucks a pop, I can play the games I want without breaking the bank!
