Gears of War 3 is set to reward longtime fans of the franchise by providing them with various rewards, which have now been detailed by the game's executive producer.

Epic Games, together with Microsoft, is working hard on getting Gears of War 3 ready for its release this September, so the companies are now hyping up the various unlockable rewards that will be given to longtime fans of the third-person shooter series.

We already heard that special items will be given to fans of Epic Games, and its executive producer, Rod Fergusson, confirmed to MTV Multiplayer just how the whole system works and what sorts of goodies players can get their hands on.

He says that achievements are going to be tracked by Gears of War 3, and things like multiplayer skins for characters or weapons are going to be unlocked.

"It's mostly around weapon skins in terms of tying into historical stuff. Two of the ones...I guess we haven't announced this but we have to announce it eventually, right? Two of the weapon skins are based on historical weapon skins, so if you want the gold lancer and the gold Hammerburst in Gears 3, you get them by owning the gold Hammerburst and the gold lancer in Gears 2, so those skins transfer over."

The gold skins were given with the special edition of Gears of War 2, while the chrome skins will be unlocked for players if they completed certain achievements in past games.

"If you did something in Gears PC you get a chrome skin, if you did something in Gears 2 you get a chrome skin. The chrome set is sort of our thank you to people who played our games in the past."

Those that participated in the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta received a chrome skin for the Hammerburst weapon if they already achieved level 5 in the multiplayer mode of Gears 2.

Until Gears of War 3 is released, on September 20 for the Xbox 360, Fergusson says that fans should focus on getting all of the achievements in previous games, if they want to have all the special unlockable rewards in the new title.
