A version of Gears of War 3, the much awaited third person shooter from developer Epic Games, has been leaked on torrent sites for some time and the team working on the game has already voiced its displeasure at the breach.
But now they are saying that those players who have downloaded the leak and are now spoiling the game for others might soon find themselves in hot water.
Rod Fergusson, who is the executive producer working on Gears of War 3, has spoken to Edge and said, “We’re extremely diligent about getting that stuff taken down and issued a call to fans to not perpetuate it… and just keeping track of those who do. I don’t think everybody’s aware of the potential repercussions of those types of actions.”
He added, “We have a banning system built into our stuff so we can go in and identify certain people. Some people aren’t smart about what they do. They’ll be disappointed on 20th September when they can’t get in and can’t play. They may be banned.”
Fergusson shared a personal experience about one video chat with fans where one man tried to spoil the plot of Gears of War 3 for all those taking place and said that such offensive behavior should not remain unpunished.
The developer says that one of the most important part of the Gears of War experience is being part of a community of gamers who respect each other and their own enjoyment of the game.
Those who are not ready to be part of that community might be targeted by
Epic Games and might find that they are unable to access the entire game or the multiplayer component.
Gears of War 3 is set to be the last game in the saga of Marcus Fenix and his defense of humanity, although the development team has suggested that
other adventures in the same universe might be created.
