Gears of War fans were thoroughly disappointed last week when the game's developer, Epic Games, and its publisher, Microsoft Game Studios, announced that the third iteration in the extremely popular third person shooter series, Gears of War 3, was pushed back from its initial April 2011 release to the fall season of next year.

According to Rod Fergusson, the executive producer of Gears of War 3, the whole decision was business motivated, and wasn't made because of a quality issue with the project or because more time was needed to iron out bugs and problems.

The Epic Games exec said that the extra time will allow Gears 3 to be the most polished titled in whole series, no matter its release date.

"I know fans are going to be disappointed with the new release date, but rest assured that this is a business decision between partners, and not a quality issue," he said.

"Gears 3 was on track to be the most polished Gears of War game ever when it released in April, and this additional time allows us to polish it that much more before it hits shelves next fall."

The producer also revealed that we are in for some major news this week, as the company will hold a new multiplayer press event, that will showcase new modes for Gears of War 3, as well as other suprises.

"Next week we have a major multiplayer press visit at Epic HQ, and I'm really looking forward to the fans getting to see and hear about Gears 3 Versus multiplayer for the first time. Lots more exciting news to come."

According to the official announcement, both Epic and Microsoft believed that it would be better for such an established franchise like Gears of War to be launched before the holiday season, to get a better profit and rival other popular shooter series like Call of Duty or Resistance.
