One of the leading executives at developer Epic Games has explained why the company has chosen to delay the release of its upcoming third-person shooter Gears of War 3 from April to the fourth quarter of next year and how the launch of a beta makes up for the time fans will need to wait for the game.
Answering a direct question from Gamespot about the delay and its reasons, Mike Capps, who is one of the co-founders and the current president of
Epic Games, has said, “the thing I liked about April is that's when Gears fans expected to play Gears 3. This way, they can still do that. Microsoft approached us about moving the game back to September.”
He went on to explain the process, saying Microsoft did not force the new date on the developers and that “a couple extra months was fine by us--it'll just make the game better. They thought it would be better for them, so we played along.”
The beta stage for Gears of War 3 is linked with another game that the company is overseeing,
Bulletstorm, from the People Can Fly team.
Those who pick up the Limited Edition of the game, which is set to be launched on February 22, 2011 on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PC, will get a key which allows them to get into the beta stage.
Only multiplayer will be included in the beta stage for Gears of War 3 and the developer at Epic Games are promising that all feedback delivered by the gamers will be taken into account for the final version of the game.
Gears of War 3 remains an Xbox 360 exclusive and will probably get a date in September or October, depending on when other high profile shooter will be released.
