We'll see ten years' worth of the shooter

Gears of War has become a true phenomenon as gamers across the world got sucked into the action-filled story of Marcus Fenix and his team mates as they battle the angry alien race called the Locust. While the first and second game told the story of how Marcus was released from jail and called to the battlefield to help defeat the aliens, it seems that in the near future we might see a prequel to that story, detailing the events of the Emergence Day.

For those of you who don't know, the Emergence Day is the day when the Locust finally showed themselves to the humans and began slaughtering them. While at first the humans were confident in their powers, slowly but surely they paid the price for their arrogance and the Locusts became very powerful and were on the brink of terminating the human race from the planet.

The possibility of a prequel was hinted by Joshua Ortega, the writer of the Gears of War franchise, at the New York Comic Convention, held this week. Ortega revealed that the team at Epic Games had over 10 years of development planned for the series, comparing it, as it is popular these days, with the Star Wars series.

“You will not be disappointed in the next ten years,” Ortega said when asked about the possibility of a prequel. “It's a ten-year plan. Gears is long-term. The lancer is the new lightsaber.” Ortega didn't stop here, and also teased the fans about the possibility of a DLC pack, which would continue the single-player story of the game: “Keep watching. You won't be disappointed.”

Gears of War and its subsequent sequel are among the most popular games released for the Xbox 360. The brainchild of Cliff Bleszinski, the franchise turned out to be very profitable for Epic Games, replacing Unreal Tournament as their main series.

Hopefully we'll see some more concrete announcements soon. What about you? Are you excited about the fact that you will be able to live the events of E-Day? Leave us a comment below.
