Two weeks ahead schedule

It's really funny how big game developers and publishers complain about the piracy issue for the PC platform, citing it as the main reason they make their games only for consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but they are still defeated by pirates that crack the protection for these console only games. The latest title to get the special pirate treatment, following Fallout 3 from Bethesda, is Epic Games' very own Gears of War 2.

Following the popular Gears of War, this very anticipated sequel was set to hit the store shelves on November 9, over two weeks from now, but has appeared yesterday on torrent sites across the world, at a hefty 6.76 GB download in the form of an archive, ready to burn on a DVD.

Of course, if you want to play it, you're going to need a modified Xbox 360 console but the point is that piracy isn't restricted to the PC – other platforms are also affected and that means that developers can't blame the poor PC gamers for their troubles.

We reported a little while ago that lead producer for the Gears of War 2 title, Cliff Bleszinski, picked on PC gamers saying that a lot of them were clever enough to download pirated copies of games instead of buying them from a store. Who knows how he will react to the fact that his game has been pirated two weeks before launch?

Piracy is still going to be a big problem for almost every platform, but that doesn't mean that developers should discriminate against said platform only because some individuals want to save up their money by downloading and playing pirated games.

However, neither does this mean that publishers need to employ even stricter DRM (Digital Rights Management) systems in their titles only to protect them from being pirated, offering the regular customer a not so good experience in the process, as it happened with Spore.
