Gearbox is committed to creating and launching Aliens: Colonial Marines despite reports to the contrary and despite the fact that the developer is also working on more content for Borderlands and has picked up development duties for Duke Nukem Forever, the title which 3D Realms has been working since 1997.

Randy Pitchford, the boss of the team at Gearbox Software, has told CVG that, “Colonial Marines has always been very important to us, and we are fully committed to that project”, continuing, “seriously, no one needs to worry about Borderlands, our the Brothers in Arms brand, or Aliens – we care about these games and what they mean to people.”

He added, “And because Gearbox is a multi-team studio and we have multi-team projects, when one game gets its day in the sun I know people tend to worry about the other games. But there’ no need to worry at all.”

Aliens: Colonial Marines is set to be a squad based shooter which uses the setting of the Alien franchise to deliver tension, adrenaline and scares as a group of four humans need to work together using their weapons and skills to take out a huge number of xenomorphs.

The developers at Gearbox says that players will be able to control one character at a time, issuing commands and switching between them at will, with close quarter combat between Marines and enemies played out via Quick Time events.

The game will be set at some point after Aliens 3 and will follow a team of Marines that explores well known locations, like the U.S.S. Sulaco, the LV-426 and a derelict alien spacecraft as they search for Ripley and other characters from the movie series.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is set to arrive on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, the PC and the Nintendo DS with a the launch date initially set for 2010 and now linked to the later half of 2011.
