Randy Pitchford, the leader of Gearbox, says that his team did not aim to trick players into buying Aliens: Colonial Marines, they simply tried to create an entertaining experience and failed.

Pressed by fans, the developer stated on Twitter, “The best entertainers exist to create joy and happiness. That they might not always succeed is no impeachment of their intent.”

He then went on to compare Aliens: Colonial Marines with the most recent Indiana Jones movie, saying that both failed in their attempts to deliver an interesting experience but both were products that were true to the universes in which they took place.

Aliens: Colonial Marines has been criticized for its limited gameplay, its buggy technology and a storyline that failed to adhere to the most basic elements of the Aliens franchise.
