Computex should start within the next 24 hours, so it stands to reason that some things will be spotted on display even before the official start of the show, things like the new PSU line from GeIL.

When it comes to PC power efficiency, one might say that the power supply is a major element that users have to check.

In fact, the 80Plus rating system was conceived exactly so that one might know exactly which power supplies are efficient and which aren't.

With the 80Plus stage as the lowest, the quality can go up, to 80Plus Bronze, 80Plus Silver, 80Plus Gold and even 80Plus platinum.

The 80Plus Gold is, for the most part, the one associated with high-end devices, like the FSP Aurum, if only because of the sheer rarity of Platinum ones.

Nevertheless, if anything, GeIL has prepared one new such model, dubbed Thortech Platinum Plus and, thus, one of under 100 of its kind.

One thing about the modular newcomer with active PFC is that it has an output of 850W which, considering the minimum efficiency of 92% (at 50% load) means it can handle very demanding hardware.

That said, the full output can be sustained even at a temperature of 50 degrees Celsius and a single +12V rail delivers up to 70A or power.

Furthermore, the 135mm fan can spin at Silent and Turbo Mode settings, with the switch possible to accomplish by means of the iPower Meter.

The iPower Meter is an accessory that CeIL is offering alongside the Platinum newcomer. It is a sort of PSU controller which, besides fan speed, can display temperature, wattage, efficiency and +12V, +5V and +3.3V readings (the accessory is designed to fit into a 5.25-inch bay).

Unfortunately, even though it was brought to Computex, the GeIL Thortech Platinum Plus 850W PSU has not yet started selling. In fact, hopefuls will have to wait until the fourth quarter of 2011 before any shipments are carried out.
