It looks like NVIDIA's upcoming board might be more special than this after all

A short while ago, it came to light that a Reddit user posted a BIOS that could, presumably, upgrade a GeForce GTX 680 to a GeForce GTX 770 graphics card.

The folks at TechPowerUp did the world a favor and tested said update and found that it was a relatively straightforward modification to the GTX 680 base BIOS and nothing more.

Through a modified INF file, the clocks were increased and the model name was changed to GTX 770 without anything else being modified.

I suppose forcefully editing those strings in order to push the GTX 680 above its limits is understandable enough.

Still, I can't help but think that anyone with the knowledge and disposition to flash the BIOS would have what it takes to just overclock the board and be done with it, maybe upgrade the cooler while at it. It would definitely be less of a stability risk.

Anyway, with this revelation people can stop thinking the GTX 770 BIOS was leaked or anything like that.
