Will contend with the ATI Radeon HD 5850

There has been quite a bit of talk on the GeForce GTX 465 graphics card, mostly because it will have to be both reasonably capable and more affordable than its two siblings, the GTX 470 and GTX 480. Of course, since the product has not yet been announced officially, NVIDIA has been doing its best to prevent information leaks. Nevertheless, such leaks did happen, though it appears that they may no longer be necessary.

The most recent piece of news on this spoke about how its performance was not particularly noteworthy. In part, this was owed to the fact that there were no up-to-date drivers to speak of, which means that the results were not perfectly accurate. Whether or not this is true should become known this week, now that Newegg has actually listed the GTX 465 as available for shipment.

Indeed, the video board is not just available for pre-order, but is already in stock. Its specifications are the same as those revealed in previous reports. Besides the 352 stream processors clocked at 1,215Mhz, the GF100 graphics processing unit runs at 607Mhz and the 1GB of GDDR5 memory at 256 bits. There are also a mini HDMI output and a DVI connector. Furthermore, the device is HDCP-ready, boasts a dual-link DVI, has a maximum resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 and supports 3-way SLI configurations.

At present, there are several card models on sale, all with prices of $279.99, just $10-$30 less than the Radeon HD 5850. As for the design itself, the boards seem to differentiate themselves from each other through more than just special stickers. All graphics controllers currently available through Newegg come with specially-designed coolers or other types of design modifications. This is different from when the GTX 470 and GTX 480 were launched (NVIDIA's partners were not allowed to make any modifications for a while).
