Santa Clara, California-based NVIDIA unveiled to the world its first 40nm graphics processing units a little less than a month ago but, while those solutions were aimed at the mobile segment of the market, nothing in the desktop area surfaced until now. The company's supposedly first 40nm graphics chips aimed for desktop PCs, namely the GeForce G 210 and GeForce GT 220, have already been rumored to be heading to the market sometime this fall, yet it is only now that we have the opportunity to take a look at them.

The images have surfaced on TechConnect, which says that the company has made a silent launch of the two cards, following the recently released 40nm mobile GPUs – GeForce GTS 260M, GTS 250M, GT 240M, GT 230M and G210M. Although the company hasn't advertised the new cards, some details already emerged to the Web, showing that both of them come to the market with half-size PCBs, active cooling solutions and the entire range of D-Sub, DVI and HDMI (GT 220) / DisplayPort (G 210) outputs.

The GeForce G 210 is reported to come with 16 Processing Cores, while also sporting a 64-bit memory interface. In addition, the news also points towards frequencies of 589 MHz for the GPU and 1402 MHz for the shaders, as well as towards 512MB of DDR2 memory running at 500 MHz. As for the GT 220, it is reported to come around with 48 shader processors, along with a 128-bit memory interface and 1GB of GDDR3 memory. The speeds boasted by its processors and memory should be somewhere at 615MHz for the core clock, 1335MHz for the shaders and 1580MHz for the memory.

As the duo is expected to get launched on the market by the end of the third quarter of the ongoing year, more details should surface in the near future. According to TechConnect, the reference design cards pictured here are OEM products, and they should surface on the market in pre-built systems in the near future, though the dedicated boards will make us wait at least two more months before hitting the shelves.
