San Jose, California-based Gateway, a leading vendor of personal computer systems and an Acer subsidiary, has recently announced the launch of its new ultraportable computer system, featuring a 10.1-inch display and the performance capabilities of Intel's successful Atom platform. The new entry in the netbook market looks to provide users with roughly the same basic configuration as almost every other netbook out there. With that in mind, Gateway looks ready to take on the fast-growing market with a
system that is relatively affordable, compared to all the other similar products on the market.

“The new sleek Gateway LT2000 netbooks let customers do more with their time on the go – from enjoying the Internet to video chatting and staying in touch via email and social networks,” said Ray Sawall, senior product marketing manager for Gateway. “The expressive design is modern and stylish, looking perfect whether it's used for work or play.”

The new Gateway LT2000 netbook has been designed on that same Intel Atom platform that has been featured in the majority of available netbooks. It boasts the successful Atom 1.6GHz processor, combined with 1GB of DDR2 memory, a 160GB 5400RPM hard drive and the integrated GMA950 graphics chips. Additionally, the system has also been equipped with a multi-in-one card reader, wireless 802.11 b/g connectivity, web camera, three USB 2.0 ports, two built-in stereo speakers and a 3-cell battery pack.

The new netbook measures 10.17 x 7.24 x 1.03 inches (WxDxH) and weighs in at 2.62 lbs, featuring a 10-inch WSVGA (1024 x 600) resolution. According to the company, the system's battery should provide users with about 3 hours of runtime. As for pricing and availability, the Gateway's LT2000 netbook series is already available in a NightSky Black chassis with the LT2001u and a Cherry Red model with the LGT2021u. The MSRP is set to start at US$299,99.
