Gateway, third-largest PC company in the U.S., today announced three new additions to its line of enterprise storage products - the Gateway E-842R storage area network (SAN), the Gateway(R) E-824R DLT-V4 SuperLoader 3 and Gateway(R) E-826R LTO-3 SuperLoader 3 automated tape backups.
Designed for professional use, these storage systems are said to deliver capacity and flexibility to small-to-medium size businesses, mid-enterprise companies, educational institutions and government agencies.
Consequently, the Gateway E-842R offers
a modular SAS/SATA storage solution, as this SAN supports an enhanced serial attached SCSI (SAS) and/or low-cost and high-capacity serial attached ATA (SATA II) hard drives. The 2U rackmount chassis supports up to 12 one-inch hot swap hard drives for a capacity of up to 1.75TB with SAS and 6TB using SATA II.
"We developed new solutions to meet the entry data storage needs of our professional customers," said Tim Diefenthaler, senior director of professional product marketing at Gateway. "We recognize that our customers require affordable storage that is easy to install and manage. The new products provide the value, increased performance and scalability our customers require."
The E-842R supports MPIO (multi-path I/O), which allows the SAN to automatically recover from a controller failure without data loss. The system provides one or two 4Gb/2Gb Fibre Channel RAID host interface modules with full failover support, and each host interface module includes two 4Gb fibre channel ports in addition to 1GB of cache and removable Battery Backup. The system also supports RAID levels 0,1,5,6(2),10 and 50.
For enterprise reliability features, the Gateway E-842R includes redundant controller modules, power supplies, cooling fans and disk drives. The Gateway E-842R delivers simple configuration and SAN management through StorView, a web or a host-based graphical management interface.
The Gateway E-842R will be available starting July 13th for a starting price of $6,599. The Gateway E-824R and E-826R will be available on June 29th for a starting price of $2,499 for the E-824R and $5,599 for the E-826R.
