When Advanced Micro Devices finally brought out its new range of platforms, including a complete range meant for mobile computers, a competition finally began on the laptop market in terms of performance, power efficiency and affordability. Needless to say, PC makers were quite quick in releasing products based on the new processors and chipsets. Now, said competition is still going strong it seems, if the latest two netbooks from Gateway are anything to go by.

Gateway unveiled the LT32 and LT22 netbooks, both of which are based on the AMD Athlon II Neo K125 central processing unit. They have LCDs with screen sizes of 11.6 inches and 10.1 inches, respectively, and the ATI Radeon HD 4220 integrated graphics, in addition to DDR3 memory. Thus, the machines can boast of having support for HD media and a better overall performance than their predecessors. The LT32 has an LCD with a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels, whereas the LT22 has a screen of 1024 x 600 pixels. Still, both come with a HDMI output that enables them to playback HD media on an auxiliary display solution.

“The new Gateway LT32 and LT22 are our ultra-mobile entertainment powerhouse netbooks,” said Chris Chiang, retail product marketing manager, Gateway. “They both deliver a heightened level of performance and HD entertainment with the powerful combination of AMD Neo processors, ATI graphics and the crisp and clear HD display. The HDMI port means that customers can enjoy their digital entertainment on a large external display wherever they go.”

The LT23 is less than one inch-thick and weighs 2.98 pounds, whereas the LT22 is just about as thin and weighs 2.76 pounds. They are already available for CAD $449.99 and CAD $349.99, respectively. Both run the Microsoft Windows 7 Starter Operating System and are described in greater detail on the official press release.
