Gateway has announced the launch of two new mobile computer systems that will soon be available through the retail channel for purchase and which are aimed at users desiring a personal computer for use as an entertainment device that can deliver a reasonable level of computing performance at a medium price level.

The two new Gateway notebooks
will soon be available under the P-6301 and P-6822 commercial designations and they will come with an affordable starting price tag as the Gateway P-6301 laptop starts at around the $800 level, while the P-6822 will be slightly more expensive, but still under the $1000 mark, according to the news site laptoping.

Both the P-6301 and the P-6822 laptops are coming powered by Intel made central processing units from the Core 2 Duo family of mobile CPUs and the lower end version, the P-6301, comes equipped with an Intel Pentium Dual Core T2310 processor that runs at a clock speed of 1.46Ghz while being housed by a mainboard centered around the Intel GL960 chipset. The higher end Gateway laptop, the P-6822, will come powered by a similar processing unit, most probably based on Intel Centrino Duo Mobile technology. Unlike the P-6301, the higher end model comes with a mainboard based on the Intel GM965 chipset and both of them are using 1GB of DDR2 random access memory running at 667MHz and setup in a dual channel configuration.

On the multimedia side of things and features, the two new Gateway mobile computer systems are featuring both a 17 inch widescreen display that is capable of handling a native resolution of 1440 by 900 pixels while the graphics business is represented by the integrated graphics processing unit, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, that is able to share up to 384MB of dynamic video memory.

While the Gateway P-6301 notebook comes with a 160GB Serial ATA compatible hard disk drive, the P-6822 model is using a 250GB storage solution as a standard and both of these product offerings are coming equipped with 8x DVD burning optical drive units that are Labelflash compatible.

On the software side, the Gateway P-6301 comes with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed, just like the higher end version, the P-6822 laptop. The Gateway P-6301 and Gateway P-6822 are coming with three high speed USB 2.0 ports each, as well as a 5-in-1 media card reader and they will become available for purchase on the 14th of October.
