Since Intel released its new CPUs ahead of CES 2011 anyway, Gateway figured it wouldn't hold off on announcing that its series of high-end tower desktops have gained access to the chips as possible central components.

Gateway's various high-end, large form factor, otherwise known as tower, desktops are generally released as part of the FX series.

Sure enough, the custom PC maker has issued a press release in which it reveals that FX is among those series of PCs that will benefit from Intel's newest chips.

“The new Intel Core processors deliver approximately a 20 percent overall performance gain, while their graphics subsystems deliver performance comparable to an entry level discrete graphics card,” said Irene Chan, senior business manager, consumer desktops, Gateway.

“This allows our new models to process video and play Blu-ray better than ever,” Chan added.

“The FX Series means the world of extreme gaming and turbo-charged fun isn’t limited to high-priced systems costing thousands of dollars,” stresses the press release.

The new FX model is FX6850-51, one that is built around the Core i7 2600 CPU and the Intel H67 Express Chipset.

Additionally, the NVIDIA GeForce GT440 graphics card, with 1.5 GB of video memory, is present, as are up to 8 GB of DDR3 memory.

Furthermore, storage space is provided by a hard disk drive whose capacity is of 1 TB, while a DVD+/-R SuperMulti Drive handled optical disks.

Set to have a starting price of $999.99, the Gateway FX6850-51 will start selling sometime next week, meaning immediately after CES 2011 is over and done with.

Meanwhile, consumers will be interested in knowing that, in addition to this particular system, the company also readies other models, powered by the Core i7-930 CPU and with various memory, storage and optical disk drive options.
