Gateway announced that it continues to expand its international market by launching several computer models in China. The Asian country is one of the most powerful markets in the whole world and most important computer manufacturers and vendors are investing heavily into their presence in China because the Chinese computer market and related services are growing very fast.

Gateway entered a joint venture with the distribution and computer hardware vendor Digital China in order to bring several brand new desktop and laptop systems as well as computer displays to the Chinese market. The computers aimed at the local market will feature Intel's both mobile as well as desktop platforms and Microsoft's Windows Vista Home Premium. "China is home to some of the world's most savvy computer users and we're confident they will recognize the value Gateway brings to this market," said Ed Coleman, Gateway's CEO, in a press conference. "We believe Gateway's strong history of quality and innovation, combined with Digital China's outstanding reputation for service and support, will lead to success in the marketplace."

Gateway is one of the most easily recognizable American brands thanks to its unique design employed when building computer cases and other parts. The computer systems will be available through malls and specialized computer shops nationwide, including dedicated international retail channel dealers like Best Buy. Gateway's Chinese intended systems will be based on the Intel Centrino Duo mobile processor technology for laptops and notebooks and on the high end Intel Core 2 Duo processors for desktop computer systems.

Currently, Gateway has several lines of computer systems ranging in performance and price from the value based eMachines brand that is sold only through retail channel partners, to the premium Gateway line that is available "at major retailers, over the web and phone, and through its direct and indirect sales force". According to the retail channel dealer Best Buy's president and chief executive officer for the Chinese area, Redmond Yeung, the partnership between Gateway, Digital China and Best Buy will prove most benefic for all the parties involved as the market is ready for a high end computer product line that Gateway created specifically for China.
