After Advanced Micro Devices officially announced the launch of its new quad core central processing units which are designed to offer a high level of performance in an enterprise environment, a number of server manufacturers and system integrators also announced their intentions of adding the new hardware platform to their product offerings. Among those server manufacturing companies, there is Gateway, the third largest United States supplier for computer systems, which intends to build an entry level tower servers system based on the new AMD quad core Opteron processors as well as a complete line of rack mountable servers.

The new AMD processors are based on a native quad server technology and they feature four processing cores placed on a single piece of silicon and while the whole assembly is able to generate a lot of computing power, its thermal envelope is staying at the same general level of the previous generation of AMD CPUs, which are based on a dual core design. As the new technologies used by AMD in building this new generation of processors allows for a greater performance while keeping the operating temperature in check and because the general power consumption is much reduced, datacenters and other entities that rely heavily on x86 servers will see an important cost reduction in terms of electrical energy.

The new Gateway E-9232T tower server together with the E-9722R, E-9522R and E-9422R rack mount systems will be based on the latest AMD quad core generation of central processing units. ''Our customers have been extremely pleased with our previous AMD Opteron processor-based servers,'' said Tim Diefenthaler, Gateway senior director, professional product management. ''Once again, AMD is bringing leading-edge technology with significant benefits to our servers and, ultimately, our customers.'' The Gateway tower server comes equipped with efficient and compelling technology and because of its low starting price it is a good addition to any small and medium business that needs the extra processing power and security featured by such a powerful server.

The E-9422R, E-9522R and E-9722R are Gateway's rack mounted server solutions based on the new AMD central processing units and they are designed for use in high performance computing environments as they include an integrated RAID storage system as well as offering improved serviceability and manageability, thanks to the integrated Gateway Lights Out (GLO for short) management system and low cost remote control suite featuring keyboard, video, mouse.

On the dedicated enterprise storage department, Gateway's new rack mounted servers come with support for both SAS and Serial ATA II hard disk drives that can be used simultaneously by the very same server system. As they are the perfect combination of high processing power and affordability, the rack mounted servers from Gateway are the ideal solution for office and small and medium sized businesses environments.
