14 DAY TRIAL // Jay Leno struck gold with the first video below, lifted from the latest segment of Pumpcast News. It helped him and the couple in it, Will and Monifa Sims, get millions of hits online but, according to new reports, it was most probably staged.
Talk about a good thing being too good to be true.
Will and Monifa made such a good impression on Leno that he even had them on his show later, to sing with the band, as the second video below reveals.
However, The Smoking Gun has uncovered several things that bug about these two Internet stars (their gas-pump karaoke number got over 7.5 million hits on Leno’s channel), the first one being that they’re both professional actors.
Moreover, Monifa has been on the show before, 2 years back and, believe it or not, she was wearing the same clothes and drove the same car, which could prove that she doesn’t own either.
“Will and Monifa are both trained actors who founded a theater company in Chicago before relocating to Hollywood. Monifa, whom Chicagoist once described as a ‘Chicago actress of some renown,’ previously won a nationwide dramatic auditions contest by the cable network TNT,” The Smoking Gun says.
Will has already confirmed for the Chicago Sun Times that they both lied about their profession because producers thus instructed them, ironically to make their appearance more believable.
“[The producers] didn’t want [people] to think we were actors and it was a ‘plant.’ They were like, ‘You’re a bartender and she’s a fitness [trainer]’,” he says.
Two years ago, when Monifa first appeared on the Pumpcast News segment, she also claimed to be a fitness instructor, boasting about her toned arms.
She says it totally slipped her mind that she was on the show the first time, or else she would have mentioned it when she was invited on Leno.
As the saying goes, something is rotten in the state of Denmark.
