Nick Jones and John Girard, two of the main analysts from Gartner, estimate that once the operating system Magneto is launched, Symbian will be in a lot of trouble. The Microsoft system will be launched in the third trimester or fourth trimester of this year.
Jones believes that although Symbian is very popular, the situation will reverse
once Magneto is launched. This new version will solve a series of flaws and bugs of the current Microsoft system for smartphones.
It's very probable that the difference between the two operating systems will only be related to marketing strategies, because regarding performance, the solutions are very close. And if estimations come true, Microsoft is in pole-position, because the marketing strategies and resources at the Redmond company's disposal greatly exceed everyone else's. Microsoft will rely a lot on the corporate users, which are already employing solutions signed by Microsoft. In this way, adopting a solution from the same family of products, which is as good as other solutions on the market, will be the logical choice.
However, both companies reacted violently when Research In Motion (RIM) announced its intention to promote J2ME as an alternative to the two systems mentioned above. The companies started to bombard RIM with accusations that J2ME is developed by amateurs and that it lacks the basic software tools.
