The Android mobile operating system might top 1.1 billion users before the end of this year, a recent report from Gartner suggests.

According to the research firm, the figure includes installs on all devices out there, though mobiles will dominate other devices shipments, it seems.

The company notes that 1.9 billion mobile phones will be shipped in 2014, which will mark an increase of five percent when compared to the last year.

“The device market continues to evolve, with buyers deciding which combination of devices is required to meet their wants and needs,” Ranjit Atwal, research director at Gartner, said.

“Mobile phones are a must have and will continue to grow but at a slower pace, with opportunities moving away from the top-end premium devices to mid-end basic products.”

Gartner estimates that Google’s platform will enjoy an increase of 26 percent in sales during this year when compared to 2013, and that it will reach 1,102,572 device shipments.
