A lot of people believed his tweet about Garry's Mod on Linux

Garry's Mod is one of the most awaited applications on Steam for Linux, and its developer has just played a very cruel joke on his fans.

Valve hasn't released any of its major titles yet, besides Team Fortress 2, on Steam for Linux. Sure enough, Half-Life 2 Deathmatch can be played, but not the single player. There's no word on Left 4 Dead 2, not to mention any of the Half-Life 2 episodes.

Garry's Mod is a physics sandbox based upon the Source engine used in Half-Life 2. It's only natural that a release of this mod will follow closely on the heels of the single-player game.

The developer of Gary's Mod has announced earlier today, on Twitter, that his application should be available on Linux by tonight. The information was not as outlandish as other similar April Fools' news, and some people bought it.

“Feel bad for that April Fools! So many happy people that will now be disappointed by this tweet! What a cruel day!” said Gary on Twitter, a few hours after the first message.

What a cruel world indeed.
