Can you find your way without the help of a GPS navigator? Well, it would seem that the answer provided by more and more people to this question is a definite "No", at least considering just how crowded the GPS devices' market is nowadays. And, in order to leave even less room for its competitors, Garmin - one of the most important manufacturers of navigation systems on the market - has just released two new entry-level models, the nüvi 200W and nüvi 250W, which target those users who want to purchase a GPS navigation system but, at the same time, don't want to spend a fortune on it.
Thus,
both the 200W and 250W models sport a bright, sunlight readable 4.3-inch color touchscreen display, with a resolution of 480x272 pixels. The devices also feature a small-size, built-in high-sensitivity GPS antenna that allows for a smaller form-factor and thus the insertion of several extra-features. For example, besides being able to guide people around, the devices also incorporate some basic multimedia functions, such as picture viewer, calculator, currency converter, unit converter and world clock.
The two devices also offer the most important navigation features one might expect from a GPS device. Thus, besides showing the user's position on the navigation maps, the 200W and 250W also provide voice-prompted directions to guide the driver to his/her destination, as well as an automatic rerouting feature that allows the user to get back on track, should he/she miss a turn.
As mentioned earlier, the two new models are a part of Garmin's entry-level range. "Many customers want a larger display on their personal navigation device, and the nüvi 200W series delivers," said Dan Bartel, Garmin's vice president of worldwide sales. "The nüvi sets the industry standard for elegant design and a simplified user interface, and these newest units represent the pinnacle in widescreen entry-level PNDs."
The nüvi 200W and nüvi 250W will hit the shelves in July 2007 for a suggested retail price of $499.99 and $549.99, respectively. The only main difference between the two models is that the nüvi 200W includes preloaded detailed mapping of the United States, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, while the nüvi 250W has preloaded detailed mapping of the entire United States (including Alaska and Hawaii), Canada and Puerto Rico.
