According to 'The Star Ledger', that sent its reporter to a screening of the new Garfield movie, its second part is even worse than the first one.
The story, based on the cartoon comics, of the overweight orange cat that does nothing else than eat, sleep, eat again and torture its fellow pet dog moves from the US to the UK, where a classical case of mistaken identity occurs. It seems that Garfield is taken for another cat that looks identically like him, uninspiredly named Prince, of more noble origins than him. The plot revolves around this and many adventures come in the way of Garfield and his two human friends (played by Jennifer Love Hewitt and Breckin Meyer), but he manages to solve them all like a true superhero... that he is not.
The film lacks all traits that such a production must have: it is unconvincing, unbelievable, poorly illustrated, the dialogue is not by far brilliant and its plot has many forced turns of events. If the producers meant it to be destined for children, they were a little off the track when they 'designed' Garfield's character (unfeeling, insensible to others' needs and completely self-centered).
The reporter from 'The Ledger' stated that he never saw anything more boring and that, throughout the entire length of the film, he heard only four children laugh at what is supposed to be a 'sparkling piece of comedy' and some even fell asleep.
'Tale of Two Kittens' opens today. Think twice before going to see it...
