A new version of GarageBand iOS is now available for download. Apple confirmed the updated app yesterday, but the binary hadn’t yet become available. You can now download the new GarageBand 1.2 with Jam Sessions, Smart Strings, Note Editor, and more cool stuff.

Using the Jam Session feature, GarageBand fans can play or record live with up to three of their friends using iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.

“With the new Jam Session feature in GarageBand, you can invite up to three of your friends to get together and wirelessly connect your iOS devices to play and record as a group,” Apple’s press release explains.

“Jam Session automatically synchronizes the tempo, key and chords of your Touch Instruments so everyone sounds great. After jamming, everyone’s tracks are automatically collected on your iOS device for you to edit and mix.”

Smart Strings is a new touch instrument that lets you conduct an entire string orchestra, while the Note Editor allows you to adjust or fine-tune any Touch Instrument recording.

Users can combine recordings to free up additional tracks using Track Merge.

GarageBand now uses iCloud, which means that you can now keep your songs up to date across all your iOS devices.

Other cool features added in GarageBand 1.2 include:

• Share your songs directly to Facebook, YouTube, and SoundCloud • Perform retro and modern synth bass lines and grooves with new Smart Bass instruments • Play synth melodies and arpeggios with new Smart Keyboard instruments.

Jam Session and iCloud are available only on iPhone 4 or later, 4th generation iPod touch, and all iPad models. Garageband 1.2 costs $4.99 (3.99 EUR). Existing users can update to the new version free of charge.
