Gannett, one of the largest newspaper publishers in the U.S., has expanded its reach into the mobile space with the recent launch of over 100 websites optimized for viewing on cell phones. The new websites offer a wide array of content, ranging from breaking news and sports, to weather updates and other useful local information updated on a daily basis.

The new offering includes mobile versions of Gannett's 84 community daily newspapers, 19 broadcast market websites and USA TODAY, the largest-selling daily newspaper in the U.S. The mobile websites feature content produced by local Gannett Information Centers, that are responsible with the publishing of real-time news and information on multiple platforms, including the Internet, newspapers and television.

The websites can be used by mobile phone owners for free, and are accessible in one of three different ways: by directly entering "m" before the URL of a Gannett website (example: http://m.usatoday.com); by using a unique market SMS short code keyword which will be used in print, online and broadcast promotion (example: text NASH to 59523); and via links from the home pages of all Gannett newspaper and broadcast websites. A complete list of links can be found at Gannett's website, available here.

The mobile websites also offer new opportunities for businesses that wish to promote their products and services, allowing them to advertise in one of the three categories available: local, regional and national. "Local news and information is more in demand than ever by consumers across the country. Making it easily available by mobile device takes Gannett's local information expertise and puts it in consumers' hands," explained Jack Williams, president of Gannett Digital. "Advertisers who appreciate the value of trusted brands, local content and audiences will be able to reach out to those consumers throughout the day."

Gannett is a global news and information company that publishes 85 daily newspapers in the U.S., including USA TODAY. The company also owns nearly 1,000 non-daily publications and operates 23 television stations in the U.S. Gannett's subsidiary in the United Kingdom, Newsquest is the second largest regional newspaper company in the area. Newsquest publishes nearly 300 titles, including 18 daily newspapers, and a full network of websites.
