Funcom is announcing that it has released Gangs of Tarantia, a new content update for the Age of Conan MMO. It adds one fresh area, called Tarantia Commons, with a new storyline, enemies and, of course, enticing rewards. Funcom is saying that high level players will get the most out of this.

Craig Morrison, who is the Age of Conan game director for Funcom, stated that “The team has poured a lot of dedication and hard work into making this update a reality. Not only are we adding a massive new area to the game where level seventy players can find hours of more entertainment, we have also made significant changes to core systems in the game that will hopefully make the game experience more fun and a lot more rewarding!”

The update is not only adding new content but also introducing some pretty important changes to how the MMO is being played. Equipment and items have been redone completely and all the players will find that they are more important than ever to the characters, as they add to the various skills and statistics. This also means that overlooked quests that lead to new weapons and armour will not become more important.

Other small changes have come to guild cities, where the atmosphere is livelier, thanks to added guards and merchants. Players will also get access to fresh Players versus Players mini games, while snakes, cats and dogs will be available to buy as pets.

Age of Conan had a very good initial run, selling more than 1.2 million copies in the first few months but then players, dismayed by the lack of high level content, left the game in droves, forcing Funcom to merge some game servers so that the population was kept constant.
