Gwen Stefani and husband Gavin Rossdale are the latest celebrities to fall victims to burglars, as a gang smashed the door of the London home where they also owned a flat. The two singers were not at home when the break-in occurred. Moreover, the thieves did not manage to get past the downstairs flat, which means they were not directly affected, the Telegraph informs.

Stefani and Rossdale were away from home when the incident occurred, as also was the owner of the apartment right below, from where the burglars took jewelry and other valuables that have not been listed to the media. The police have no suspects yet, but they believe the gang who broke in knew the two singers had an apartment in the building, and were aiming to get into it to loot.

“They failed to break into the upstairs flat she shares with husband Gavin Rossdale, also a singer, they stole jewelry from their downstairs neighbor, media executive Dame Liz Forgan. Dame Liz, 65, a former Channel 4 and BBC chief, was not home when the break-in happened in Primrose Hill, north London.” the Telegraph writes. Forgan has denied to comment, saying the police will keep the media up-to-date with the investigation, as she has nothing to add, since she was not at home when it happened.

Neighbors say the community was never faced with such a bold break-in before, which, again, fuels speculation that the burglars knew exactly what they came for, since they smashed the door while there was still traffic, lights and plenty of people out – at 11 on a Saturday night. Understandably, the neighbors are already thinking of upping their security systems to prevent further incidents like this one from happening again.

“We were in and my son had his friends over they were down in the basement. All of a sudden, we heard a really loud crashing sound outside at about 11.30. I thought it was the kids downstairs – I thought a bookcase had been knocked over or something. […] I was just really shocked that somebody would be that bold to do something where there is a lot of lighting, traffic and people around on a Saturday night. We are going to upgrade our security after this. Other neighbors said there has never been a problem here but we will be more cautious now.” one woman says for the aforementioned publication, refusing to reveal her identity.
