She may have been axed from X Factor before the live shows, but Gamu Nhengu is a little star all on her own. Last night, at the MOBO Awards 2010, she was greeted with cheers on the red carpet.

Dressed in a little black dress and trendy leopard-print heels, the Zimbabwe-born singer enjoyed her moment in the spotlight, as the crowd clapped and cheered for her.

Speaking with the Daily Mail at the event, the 18-year-old former X Factor hopeful revealed how overwhelming the show of support for her had been, while also saying she still didn’t know if she had to move back to Zimbabwe.

“Have I got over the pain? I guess so... It was gutting but the love I’ve got from people has definitely helped, definitely helped to heal the wound,” Gamu said about being turned down on X Factor.

As for her immigrant status, that’s still to be decided, she said. “It’s still a little up in the air we don’t know what’s happening and haven’t had any contact yet,” she explained.

As Independent Television News reports, Gamu also told reporters she was tremendously excited about putting in an appearance at the Music Of Black Origin Awards, all the while fearing she might do something to mess things up.

Luckily, that was not the case. The support Gamu got from ex-Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams, who is just one of her celebrity supporters, may have helped.

As we also reported on various occasions and as X Factor fans must know, Gamu was turned down by Cheryl Cole during the judges’ house stage of the show, right before the live shows began.

The decision caused a lot of outrage with fans, many of whom believed Gamu deserved a spot in the competition, whereas Katie Waissel or Cher Lloyd didn’t.

Shortly after Gamu’s elimination, it emerged that her immigrant status was uncertain, with the Home Office telling her mother she and her family had days to leave Scotland and move back home to Zimbabwe.

They are now appealing to have the decision overruled, with many showing public support for the talented Gamu.
