After weeks of media controversy and desperation, one-time X Factor contestant Gamu Nhengu has finally gotten a reprieve: she will not be deported to home country Zimbabwe – for the time being, it has been announced.

Nhengu, who made a lasting impression on the X Factor auditions but was then controversially kicked out of the show by Cheryl Cole during judges' house stage, was told in October she had days for her and her family to leave the UK.

Her mom fought the decision in court and, with some backing up from Simon Cowell's attorneys, got what looks like a first victory in the case, a temporary stay, the Daily Mail informs.

Moreover, it looks like odds are looking good for Gamu's family, with one lawyers saying they were hoping they could have the temporary decision made permanent.

There's some good news for fans of the teenage singing sensation as well: she's having a Christmas song out ahead of the winter holidays, with hopes high that it will go straight to number one.

Judging by the amount of support Gamu has received during the deportation ordeal, it wouldn't be that surprising if the single did go straight to the top of the charts, despite the fact that she's up against some fierce competitors.

“Gamu has recorded a single to be released in the battle for the Christmas number one spot. Aberlour, a Stirling-based children's charity, is releasing the single Where Will You Sleep This Christmas?, featuring the teenager's vocals,” the Daily Mail reports.

Gamu has already agreed to donate whatever money the single makes in sales to the aforementioned charity. At the same time, she wants to thanks the thousands of people who have shown their support for her and her family these past few weeks.

“The song was written by Miss Nhengu's former music teacher David Clifford and will be released on December 13,” the Mail adds.

Gamu and her family will learn of the Home Office's new decision as regards their immigration status in the UK “in due course.” Keep an eye on this space for updates on this.
