Other than the 10 programmable buttons, it looks surprisingly normal

Gaming mice have developed the tendency, or perhaps we should say that their makers have developed the tendency, to add lots of unusual design elements. The latest such peripheral from Func defies that trend though.

You can see it clearly in the photos above and below. While the Func MS-2 does possess some orange highlights, those are the full extent of the company's visual meddling.

Well, that and the spots where the extra buttons ended up, but that's it. There are no segmentations or other odd things, like a carbon fiber shell. Func wanted to marry functionality with affordability, so that's what it did.

Granted, having to pay $49.95 / €49.95 / £39.95 still means a dent in your allowance, but it's not as bad as for other, though admittedly more visually appealing, models.

Anyway, the Func MS-2 mouse was made so that “no matter what game you play, the MS-2 can handle it,” in the company's own words. Or, rather, those of Func Brand Manager Calle Conradsson.

You can set up three user profiles and a whole bunch of macros. Those 10 programmable buttons have to be used somehow after all.

Then, there's the T+4 thumb button placement to take into account, which makes commands easy to access.

Furthermore, the peripheral maker included a customizable LED lighting system, which is the only “embellishment” you'll find here really.

Other than the above, there are no other assets, so to speak, that Func included for the sake of gaming command variety or anything related to that.

The rest of the R&D team's focus was on ease of use and comfort over prolonged periods of time. Plus product durability.

To those ends, Func used OMRON switches (among the most long-lived so far) and a mid-sized girth, which should let you hold it in your grasp for hours and in one of a whole variety of grips without suffering wrist strain.

The only thing we're not sure of is whether or not the Func will do well in the hands of people whose palms tend to sweat. The top plastic layer doesn't look much different from that of every other random mouse in the world, and there is no internal fan to blow cool air against your hand, so that's out. Prospective customers might want to keep that in mind while they browse online.

“The Func MS-2 is equipped with the essential functions a gamer needs and is built to handle a wide range of grip styles thanks to its light, mid-size body,” says Calle Conradsson, brand manager Func.
