Survey on Generation Y females

We all know that an important part of the online gamers are girls. There is no point in denying that; girls are taking over everything, even gaming. On top of this gaming girls expect to get free stuff with the purchase of a game.

An eMarketer.com recent study shows that most Generation Y females incline to buy a game if that certain game is part of a special offer, with free items and discounts. What is Generation Y you might ask? I know it sounds complicated but in fact it is very simple: generation Y females are all the women born between 1977 and 1994.

This study is called "Customer Focus Tech Savvy" and tries to reveal what determines a certain demographic segment to purchase video games. For this particular study they have focused on females and found out that about 33% of them want free stuff with their games.

Another 23% of Generation Y females are impressed by the newest games in-stock, while another 11% like frequent shopper/membership cards. Helpful and knowledgeable sales stuff do it for 6% of Generation Y females while another 2% is convinced by in-store demonstration kiosks.

Maybe video game marketers should take note of this survey and start acting as such. Not only girls like free stuff, boys do too. I especially like the Halo 3 pre-order offer, as you get a Master Chief helmet if you order the Halo 3 Legendary Edition. This special offer consists of 4 Halo 3 disks and the already mentioned Master Chief helmet replica, but costs US$ 100. Nevertheless, you will get to impersonate Master Chief himself! Isn't that cool?
