The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has just announced the winners of the 2007 edition of the Video Games Awards and it turns out that one of the hits of the year is in fact Wii Sports. Nintendo's blockbusters brought home six of the 13 major awards in categories like Casual and Social, Gameplay or Innovation.

Crackdown is the year's best action and adventure title and also won the "Use of Audio" award, while Okami managed to slip that "Artistic Achievement" award from the hands of its competitors. God of War II also scored big time in the "Technical Achievement", "Best Story" and "Character" departments, although I, for one, would have rather voted for Square Enix's RPGs, especially when it comes to brilliant storylines.

Predictably enough, the Wii managed to snatch six awards, while the PS2 got four and the Xbox 360 only walked home with three of them. Sony must be really disappointed with this edition of the gaming BAFTA awards, since the PS3 didn't even bring them one single trophy, as their last gen device seemed to be more successful. You might be wondering where did the PC games go, but there was also an award for this platform, received by Football Manager 2007 ("PC World Gamer's Award). This winner was decided through the public's vote and the BAFTA jury also voted for Ragnarawk, as one of the titles to watch.

The game was developed by a couple of students, participating in a competition called Dare to be Digital. All in all, there's nothing spectacular in the list of awards of this year's gaming BAFTA, but I'm surprised to see that the portable consoles couldn't earn any awards for their hard-working producers. Also, the Wii managed to show everyone that it's not the best-selling console for nothing, earning the most awards and making Nintendo one happy producer and developer.
