Gamescom, the biggest video game focused event taking place in Europe, has been visited by more than 254,000 gusts who sampled products from 505 exhibitors that arrived from 33 countries, as reported by the organizers.

The show was significantly bigger in 2010 than in 2009, when 245,000 visitors took a look at products from 459 exhibitors.

The show was a perfect venue for the biggest publishers and developers to show off the games which will dominate the industry during the fall, from Call of Duty: Black Ops and Medal of Honor to Gran Turismo 5, Civilization V and FIFA 11.

The event also saw companies talk about titles that will be arriving in early 2011, like Dragon Age 2 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Oliver Kuhrt, who is the managing director of Koelnmesse, the exhibition center where Gamescom takes place, stated, “After the successful premiere, this year we managed to make Gamescom even larger and more international, as well as welcome both more exhibitors and more visitors”.

He added, “The amount of positive feedback from the industry, trade and private visitors as well as the media shows us that gamescom 2010 was a completely successful event.”

The organizers have announced that the show next year will take place from August 17 to 21, with Cologne again playing host to the event.

Gamescom will again be accompanied by Games Developers Conference Europe, which also reported record attendance this year.

The most interesting video game shown this year at Gamescom has been judged to be Gran Turismo 5, the racing title coming from Polyphony Digital and Sony exclusively on the PlayStation 3.

The of delayed title managed to get the overall Best of Gamescom award and the title for Best Console Games.

Other winners of Gamescom awards included: Crysis 2, Guild Wars 2, the PlayStation Move, Kirby's Epic Yarn and Super Scribblenauts.
