Playing an old-school zombie shooter and a militarized version

Resident Evil 6 is being promoted as the game that will restore the faith of long-term fans in the zombie battling franchise from Capcom and, based on the time I spent with the game during Gamescom 2012, I must say that it seems a varied, difficult, sometimes scary third-person shooter.

I first chose to play as Leon Kennedy and I was tasked with escaping a college crammed with undead, relying on pistols (I love dual wielding) and on close quarters attacks to take them out and find a keycard that would allow him and his partner to escape the area.

Moving and firing at the same time is a blessing for the series as even made the entire level more challenging as I often stumbled forward too fast and found myself surrounded by enemies, forced to rely on my partner to revive me and keep my fighting.

Capcom is also keeping true to the survival part of its horror series as ammunition was scarce, and towards the end I was reduced to running around waiting for Leon’s stamina to fill back up so I could deliver another right trigger-powered finishing move (all of them are suitably gory).

The second section I experienced was based around Chris Redfield, who is fighting a massive military engagement in an Eastern sounding country and faces both regular human enemies with machine guns and blunt weapons and bioengineered weapons with shields and other abilities.

I found this section even harder than the previous Leon segment and my ammunition crisis grew even worse, which meant I took one too much risk with close quarter moves and succumbed to a monstrous beast with glowing orange weak spot that I had nothing to shoot with.

Resident Evil 6 will be launched on October 2 all over the world on home consoles.
