14 DAY TRIAL // What it is: Without a doubt the PlayStation Vita is a powerful handheld console, but what really drove this point home was the demonstration of an Uncharted game running on the portable device, in the form of Uncharted: Golden Abyss.
The game impressed attendants at the E3 2011 conference and is now demonstrating the power of the Vita to Gamescom 2011 attendants.
How it is: Uncharted: Golden Abyss is a stunning game and, if you’re not aware it’s a game made for the Vita, you could swear that you’re seeing a video of the bigger Uncharted games made for the PlayStation 3 on the smaller Vita screen.
What’s even more impressive is that the whole experience is extremely smooth and fluid, especially since Drake gets into some large scale firefights against enemies that are using cover and tactics to defeat the protagonist.
Shooting and exploring feels great, as the addition of a second thumbstick makes the Golden Abyss experience almost the same, in terms of controls, like the first two games for the PlayStation 3.
What’s more impressive is that the game also uses the special features of the Vita, like its touchscreen or Sixaxis motion sensitivity, in various parts of gameplay. When climbing through the environment, players need just to tap on the ledge they want Drake to reach, and he’ll immediately go there in a safe manner.
While the Golden Abyss demo on the PlayStation Vita wasn’t all that long, I’m quite keen to see just how the full game will look on the new portable device.
When and on what: Uncharted: Golden Abyss doesn’t have an exact release date, but it might appear sometime in 2012, exclusively for the PlayStation Vita.
