What it is: The Witcher 2 has pleased a huge amount of PC
gamers and reviewers alike, with its deep role playing mechanics, sharp
graphics, polished gameplay and the great story filled with twists and turns.
Now, the development team at CD Projekt Red is hard at
work adapting
The Witcher 2 from the PC platform onto the Xbox 360 console, a
first for the series, after the ultimately abandoned The Witcher: Rise of the
White Wolf.
The project was announced earlier this year, after the
game appeared on the PC, so many Xbox 360 owners
are definitely looking forward
to seeing what the hype is all about.
How it is: A brief demonstration was showcased by CD
Projekt Red at its Gamescom 2011 booth, depicting a few scenes with Geralt, the
main character, alongside the dwarf Zoltan, in the forest, looking for Iorveth.
The game manages to keep its impressive visuals on the
Xbox 360, with the development team highlighting that the console is still
powerful enough to render all of the special effects used by The Witcher 2 on
the PC, recreating the same sharp visual experience. What’s more, it seems that
the quality of the textures wasn’t sacrificed in order to draw the open world
of the level, as the console is capable of rendering it in a great way without
any drops in framerate.
The combat is pretty much the same, and, even as the
player used different types of attacks, signs and various other things in the
big fight between Geralt and Letho, it all went quite smoothly.
Basically, CD Projekt insists that The Witcher 2 on the
Xbox 360 is more than just a simple port, and that it has been pretty much
overhauled in order to run and play smoothly on the console, and still deliver
the same great story.
When and on what: The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will
be out in early 2012 for the Xbox 360 console.
