Xbox Live will become more important with Windows 8, however

Although there are countless petitions against Games for Windows Live in which fans complain of Microsoft’s lackluster platform, the company will continue to promote it, even if the upcoming Windows 8 operating system will have a deep integration with the Xbox Live online service.

Microsoft, despite owning the biggest gaming platform in the world thanks to the Windows-powered PC, hasn’t exactly made things easier for developers to make games for these computers.

While it tried to do something with the Games for Windows Live service, it ended up failing completely, and was forced to hide the platform away in its Xbox.com website.

Still, this doesn’t mean that we’ve seen the last of Games for Windows Live, as the recent announcement that it will be used by Namco Bandai’s upcoming Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition made PC owners once again complain about the service.

Microsoft is still confident, however, and confirmed to NeoGamr that it will continue to support it, even if Windows 8, its next OS for the PC, will have an interconnection with the Xbox Live service.

“Microsoft continues to support the Games for Windows platform, but we are making new investments in Metro style games.”

The company then praised Xbox Live and said that with Windows 8, the service will make users forget about Games for Windows Live.

“When it comes to the living room, Xbox 360 was the number one selling connected TV device in 2011 and we have 40 million Xbox Live members. We are committed to delivering extraordinary entertainment experiences across devices in a uniquely connected way. Xbox Live on Windows 8 is a milestone in that journey. With the Windows 8 Consumer Preview, you’ll get a taste of some of the features we’re bringing with Xbox on Windows, but we’ll have more to share later this year as we get closer to launch.”

As you can see, while Windows 8 will bring some changes, Microsoft is still adamant that Games for Windows Live is a great service.
