It’s not the first time Croteam implements such a trick

Developer Croteam is mostly known for its work on Serious Sam 3, but their latest game, The Talos Principle, should make them even more famous.

Those who have previously played Serious Sam 3 know that developers implemented a trick that would prevent gamers who would pirate the game from completing it.

An unkillable scorpion would appear at some point in the game, which would follow the players forever. There was no way to get rid of the scorpion except for purchasing a copy of the game.

However, few know that The Talos Principle has something similar implemented, which should prevent those who play pirated copies from completing the game.

Although this doesn’t come as a surprise from Crotem, it’s still funny that some players thought that the anti-piracy measures are in fact bugs that devs should fix.

It looks like those who play pirated versions of The Talos Principle are trapped in an elevator and won’t be able to come out no matter what. One of those players recently posted on Steam that he can’t advance into the game because he is trapped in an elevator:

“When I unlocked 2nd floor on the tower, all the elevators have stopped working. Whenever I want to get somewhere, it just stops in the middle of the way and I can't do anything. Does anyone has the same problem? What should I do?”

Apparently, it took more than two weeks for someone to show the world how Croteam decided to punish gamers who don’t actually buy their game and prefer to play pirated versions.

The funny thing is that a QR code placed near the elevator contains some hints at the pirated copy of the game, but unless the cursor is on it, it’s impossible to tell why you're being trapped in the elevator.

If you haven’t purchased The Talos Principle yet, then by all means we recommend getting it as soon as possible. For more in-depth details on the game, you might also want to check out our The Talos Principle review.
