Gamers Start Petition to Ban Region Locking in the U.S.

A group of gamers has started a special petition designed to attract the White House's attention to the practice of region locking in the video game industry as well as in the entertainment one as a whole.

Devices like home consoles can sometimes be region locked by manufacturers, meaning the devices sold in one country or territory can't play games that were made for other regions.

As you can imagine, this has caused a lot of problems for U.S. gamers who had to wait until a game from Japan or Europe was localized in their region to play it, and vice versa.

Now, a group of gamers has started a petition designed to attract the attention of the White House to this issue.

The petition, available at this link, via Kotaku, believes that the global market no longer has a need for region locking and that this practice should be outlawed around the world, starting with the U.S.

As of right now, the movement has gained almost 3,000 signatures.
