Gamers Enter History's Hall of Fame Thanks to Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition 2008

- Funny, crazy or boring – you have them all in one book

By: Calin Ciabai, Games Editor

No, honestly, I haven't written this title to enter the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition 2008 competition for the longest and most uninspired game news title ever.
I doubt there is such a category, anyway. But that's not important – what matters is the fact that, finally, gamers have the chance to write their names in the all-time Hall of Fame by doing what they like more: playing video games and breaking records. Be warned, though – some of these would probably damage your health really bad.

This edition has already hit the store shelves last week and it is expected to be available in the US until the 11th of March and it exists, according to its editor Keith Pullin, because "the games industry is the fastest growing entertainment sector in the world".

Now, if you haven't got the chance to buy it yet, we are really sure some of the records you will find there in full detail will make you re-consider your decision. From the funniest to the most boring of them all, you have everything. And, most important, you will understand that your passion for the game can't be compared to what other people feel and do. Here are some examples:

Halo 2 was the biggest-selling game on the Xbox with over 9 million copies sold, while Half-Life sold over 8 million copies worldwide making it the best-selling first-person shooter of all times.

The most successful film based on a video game was NOT directed by Uwe Boll. Instead, it featured two of the sexiest females in the world (real and virtual): Angelina Jolie and Lara Croft. Yep, it's the first Tomb Raider, released in 2001, a movie that grossed $274,703,340 at cinemas worldwide making it the most successful film based on a video game.

The longest title for a strategy game is the less than snappy "The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II - The Rise of the Witch-King", even though my title can easily compete against that. And there are a ton more entries in the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition 2008, quietly awaiting for you to read them and be amazed. Or get angry and break the record. There might be no Lula records yet, you know?
