It turns out that that the girls like gamers after all and it's pretty easy for a WoW fan to get a date. Nottingham Trent University recently completed a research related to the online games and the gamers' myths and published it in the US journal CyberPsyChology and Behaviour.

Female gamers are more likely to be attracted by other players, according to the study, being also available for a potential date. A third of the questioned gamers claimed that they can be themselves while playing the game, as opposing to wearing a social mask in real life. 1000 online gamers from all over the world participated in this study, which showed that the most played MMORPG is World or Warcraft.

This doesn't come as a surprise, but what does is the fact that 81% of the gamers play with real-life friends, family or acquaintances. There goes the myth that we're playing WoW with perfect strangers and trying to pick up unknown gamer girls... It seems that they're the ones trying to do the picking up and real-life friendship turn into virtual alliances, so you'd better tell your friends your character's name before bashing unknown players.

All the research results we've read so far showed that gamers are socially inactive persons, but, according to Professor Mark Griffiths, from Notthingham Trent University's School of Social Sciences MMORPG players are very sociable people. Such an attribute leads to long-lasting friendships, relationships, sometimes ending with happily married couple that met while playing WoW.

The credit goes to the fact that it's all a virtual world to explore out there and each gamer can hide behind his or her avatar, acting cool, selfish, arrogant, generous or brave, unlike the player's real counterpart. So, the next time you decide to pick up a girl during a World of Warcraft duel, think again, as she may be your classmate, next door neighbor or even a distant relative.
