Game distribution is a big business, with major retail chains holding the key to titles reaching the average gamer. Even though digital distribution has caught on, with services like Steam or Direct2Drive being very popular, this doesn't worry companies like GameStop or Target.

Now, the CEO of GameStop, Dan DeMatteo, comes to reveal a couple of very interesting things and offer some insight into what happened in the gaming market recently, with the PS2 price cut, and what will arrive in the future, regarding Nintendo. Talking with CNBC, he says that the Wii might get a price cut in the future as Nintendo has made a lot of money with it and aims at doing so for quite some time.

Speaking of the PlayStation 2 price cut, which is now 99 dollars, he thinks it “really wasn't worth doing,” and even questions the impact that a 50-dollar PlayStation 3 price cut will have on customers: “I don't know that $50 gets you that much.” Remaining on the subject, DeMatteo suggests that the Wii will see the next price cut, as Nintendo “used to break even on the Wii, but now they're making a considerable margin.”

He further states, in regard to the holiday blockbuster schedule, that Nintendo definitely has something up its sleeve and will announce it in the near future, possibly at the E3 Conference in summer. “We think there will be a Nintendo key property coming out by the end of the year. They haven't given us any insight, but they have told us to reserve shelf space.”

So there you have it, straight from the retailer's mouth. While price cuts may be expected, the one coming from Nintendo will certainly have the bigger impact, even though Sony fans have been eagerly anticipating one for the PlayStation 3. Hopefully, we will get to hear some news about the mysterious new title from the Japanese company soon.
