Yoyo Games, developer of popular game engine GameMaker: Studio, has announced that their tool will be available to aspiring game creators for free, for a limited time only.

GameMaker: Studio is an entry level product that is easy to pick up by inexperienced designers due to the fact that it is completely programming-free.

Although Yoyo Games' development tool may not be as widely known or as robust as Unity, CryEngine or UDK, it still has a pretty sweet assortment of games to brag about. Hyper Light Drifter, Nidhogg, Risk of Rain, Valdis Story: Abyssal City and many, many other small indie titles were brought into the world using GameMaker: Studio.

The official announcement informs that until March 2, 2014, the GameMaker: Studio standard license can be acquired for free from the company's website, by downloading the Free Version and then following the instructions inside.

Additionally, upgrades from the Standard Version are now more affordable, as the GameMake: Studio Professional license can be obtained for only $35 / €25.
