Aspyr Media has released the GameAgent digital download store, delivering its first two Mac-compatible titles – Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and the SAT prep game futureU. The GameAgent online store is a site anyone can visit for free. Aspyr also has on offer a Game Agent application utility that lets Mac users compare their computer hardware with the system requirements of Aspyr games.

While the GameAgent digital download store itself comes free of charge, users download their purchases once to a single machine, and can deauthorize and install them on other machines two more times. Users can purchase a two-year Extended Download Service, which allows them to make multiple downloads of previously purchased game titles, for $4.99 per game.

Main features of the service provide users with the ability to purchase games and download them online, play games without physical CD/DVD media, register their games online, receive alerts on game updates, receive notifications for current Aspyr projects and new games, and take advantage of special offers. Unfortunately, for the time being, digital downloads through the GameAgent online store are available only for North American customers.

An aspect worth mentioning is that, by purchasing a game through GameAgent, you can switch to a new machine and still hold on to it, “but only if you have purchased the Extended Download Service (EDS),” says the company. “EDS essentially allows you to download your purchase again for up to two (2) years, in the event your computer crashes or the downloaded file becomes damaged or corrupt. It can be thought of as an insurance policy in case anything goes wrong with your computer or the downloaded product,” Aspyr explains.

As for Aspyr's free application utility, as noted above, it allows you to easily match your specs with the system requirements of Aspyr games. Game Agent automatically identifies which games will run on your system and even tell you exactly what you need to upgrade to be able to play more demanding Aspyr games. It also keeps track of the systems Apple is offering at any given time, allowing users to see which titles work on which systems. You can download the free utility here, or buy your first game through GameAgent, here.
