The development team at Cyanide working on the Game of Thrones role-playing game has revealed that it had been working on its own project well before the HBO-made television series based on the same intellectual property was launched last year.

After the television series based on the R.R. Martin saga was shown, the team adapted some content from it to its game while making sure that it kept the consistency of its own title.

Sylvain Sechi, who is the lead designer working on Game of Thrones at BioWare, told Xbox360Achievements that, “Since we’re very faithful to the books and the show is very faithful, every media blends into that one universe.”

He added, “It’s not like the books have a very different vision of the universe to the game or the TV show. We don’t have three different visions of something.

“We’re all very close in terms of respect towards the universe of A Song of Ice and Fire, so it was more a question of what stuff we should take from the TV show to put into the game and what are the things we shouldn’t do.”

Sechi talked about the throne room that players will see in the Game of Thrones, saying that it will be quite different from the one seen in the HBO series even though the Iron Throne itself will be a shared asset.

Cyanide talked to HBO about getting access to the actors seen on television in order to make sure that gamers had a simple way of creating a connection to the game world.

For every core character that players will meet they will see the likeness of the actor who portrays him and will hear dialog that is recorded using his voice.

The Game of Thrones role-playing game is set to arrive on May 15 on the Xbox 360, the PC and the PlayStation 3.
